Saving Truck Drivers Hard Earned Cash

March 20, 2012

Up Close and Personal With BME’s General Freight Truck Driver, Marty Martin.

Marty Martin is a Bennett Motor Express general freight driver. When he stopped by Bennett’s home office in McDonough, GA Friday, March 16th, he was eager to share how amazing Bennett’s “fuel savings” program has been for him and his family this past year.

Since Bennett’s fuel savings program began in 2008, it has recorded $5.28 million in savings for Owner/Operators. How does it work? Bennett owner/operators simply log on to our driversig.com portal for a full list of stops and discounts by city and state, or click on the Qualcomm Fuel Ahead icon at the top of the login page for more useful fuel tools.

The Qualcomm Fuel Ahead tool gives Bennett’s discount fueling locations, along a specific truck route. Marty explained just how easy it is to use the Qualcomm app.

Q: What’s your first step when searching for a fueling location?

Marty: “It depends on where I’m headed. I love the Qualcomm app. I just pull it up on my phone, put in my destination, and the fuel search pulls up all fuel stops on my route within a 50 mile radius.”

Q: What type of savings can a truck driver expect to receive at one of Bennett’s fuel partnering destinations?

Marty: “I’ll tell you what I saved yesterday. First, I look at the cash price, and then I look at Bennett’s discounted fuel price. At Love’s off of I-20 yesterday, I saved .34 cents off the cash price. At a TA/Petro, Bennett’s fuel discount was .14 cents off the cash price. While other truckers paid $4.00 per gal. at TA/Petro yesterday, I paid $3.86. I write down everyday what I save. I don’t know why more truckers aren’t taking advantage of Bennett’s great fuel savings program. But I make sure I do!”

Q: Wow! So you’ve been tracking your savings? Can you tell me how much you saved this past year?

Marty: “Yep, I sure can! This past year, I’ve saved over $8,000. This month, I’ve saved about $300 at TA/Petro, and $200 at Love’s. Not to mention the reward points I’ve been able to accumulate with each loyalty customer card at both TA/Petro and Love’s. I think I have a few free showers and parking coming my way.”

Q: How have these savings affected your family and life outside of working?

Marty: “It’s about the bottom line. For my family and I, it’s had a positive effect. If you ask my wife, you’ll see a smile come to her face, because that $8,000 I’ve saved is covering her car payment for the year. But it’s a really good feeling knowing that Bennett’s working hard to keep hard earned money in the pockets of their truck drivers. With diesel prices expected to rise this summer, I’m grateful for Bennett’s fuel savings program. I know it’ll help ease the pain at the pump.”

Q: Thank you for sharing your experience, any parting words for truck drivers?

Marty: “Saving money keeps your wife happy!”
