Pilot’s Winter Fuels

Pilot Flying J’s procedures for 2023 – 2024 winter additive blending are detailed below. This season, our primary winter diesel additive provider will be Lubrizol (Tellico brand).

General Winter Procedures:
When the outside temperature drops to +15F or less, Pilot Flying J will begin blending a single treatment of cold flow improvers.

If the outside temperature is between +5F to -5F, we will begin double treatments of cold flow improvers.

If the outside temperature dips below -5F, the fuel will be treated with double treatments of cold flow improver and 20% of No. 1 fuel or Kero.  Should No. 1 fuel or Kero not be available, triple treatment of cold flow improver will be used.

All stores, except the cold weather locations listed below and stores in Illinois, Iowa and Minnesota, will receive treatment as needed. Treatment will continue until the temperature remains above +15F.

“Cold Weather” Location Procedures:
The following list of “cold weather” locations will follow the above general winter procedures. However, treatment will continue the entire winter season through March 1, 2024, regardless of outside air temperature.

Includes the below locations:

Illinois, Iowa and Minnesota Procedures:
Once treatment at any locations in Illinois, Iowa and Minnesota begins, double treatment rates will continue through March 1, 2024, regardless of the outside air temperature while biodiesel is being blended.

loren: Fuel Manager Services Inc. "Serving the trucking industry since 1992" I've been in and around the trucking industry for 45-years beginning in owner operator operations at Willis Shaw Express. I bought a small trucking company that I ran for 6-years then sold and went to work for J.B. Hunt Transport in 1982. After 10-years with Hunt, I started Fuel Manager Services, Inc., we are in our 29th year of serving the American trucking companies. Our simple goal was and is to bridge the gap between the trucking companies and the fuel suppliers.
