McDonough, Georgia (September 10, 2014) – Balloons, cupcakes, frozen yogurt, and punch – all the things that make a birthday celebration festive, fun, and delicious – were served up at Bennett International Group’s corporate office located in McDonough, Georgia on September 10, 2014 to celebrate the company’s official 40th birthday.
Four decades ago on September 10, 1974 J. D. Garrison and Marcia Taylor signed on the dotted line and acquired George Bennett Motor Express, a small regional carrier with two customers, 15 trucks, and 30 trailers. Over the past 40 years, Bennett has grown into a global transportation and logistics company offering a comprehensive suite of specialized logistics services serving thousands of customers.
More than 250 Bennett home office employees took part in the birthday festivities. During the celebration, David Pittman, chief operating officer and chief financial officer, made the initial toasts, and Lee Gentry, executive vice president, gave some historical facts about the company.
“Our very first owner operator was J. W. Jackson,” Gentry said. “And, by the way, J. W. Jackson is still with us today.”
Lynette Alt Mathis, vice president supplier diversity and marketing, announced the opening of an employee lounge on the corporate campus and dedicated it to Regina Auletta, vice president of administration and human resources, who has also been with the company since it began 40 years ago.
Auletta thanked everybody.
“I’ve had a wonderful 40 years here being with everybody and getting to know everybody, and I just love it,” she said. “One of the things I think I love the most are our values, and everybody here demonstrates our values so well.”
