Contract Logistics

BDS offers comprehensive, custom tailored, flexible Contract Logistics solutions designed to meet the specific needs of each customer. We work as your 3PL partner to design integrated, responsive solutions to meet your organization’s logistics requirements for yard management, rail support operations, warehousing, distribution, inventory management, packaging, manufacturing support, and transportation services. BDS is organized to provide managed services in one of our existing locations, in one or more of your plants and warehouses or in a new location selected to meet strategic planning needs.

Inventory management, throughput operations or Kanban picking can be run in BDS systems or in customer owned ERP, WMS, MES, or TMS systems. We presently operate in SAP with several valued customers.

Project Management

BDS works within the energy industry supporting new construction as well as refurbishment projects at major nuclear, oil, natural gas, and coal-fired power plants. Our Project Management team handles the inbound flow of major components providing material handling and transportation support. We establish the supply chain process from receipt at designated ocean ports through final delivery to the construction site.

To accomplish this, we establish liaison with the appropriate port authority, stevedores, terminal operators and inbound carriers to develop operating procedures and communication channels necessary to manage the material flow process. BDS then maps out the process and sets up the technology required to support inventory control, track & trace, reporting and visibility of materials. We complete preparations by negotiating all required sub-contracts and assigning the on-site BDS staff and management team. We then provide top notch project management to ensure seamless integration between component suppliers and the general contractor through completion of our assignment.

Transportation

As a member of the Bennett Family of Companies, BDS can claim that its origin evolved from a trucking company known as George Bennett Motor Express. Today, BDS provides direct transportation support to our customers for local truckload deliveries, shuttle transfers and spotting services.

Local delivery service is available for customer destinations under 250 miles from a designated pick up location. This can be established as an on-call arrangement or dedicated service based on customer requirements and volume. Shuttle transfers can be set up between BDS warehouses and customer facilities and may include deliveries to our customer’s customers, as well.

Spotting services can be established to move trailers in and out of dock doors and yard locations at customer facilities or BDS warehouses. These services can be supervised by BDS personnel to control inbound/outbound trailer traffic including management of “free times” to reduce or eliminate costly detention charges.
