ISO 9001 is a set of basic business standards adopted by more than 100 countries for quality management systems. To achieve this certification, companies must demonstrate that they:
- Meet their customers’ quality requirements
- Apply all relevant regulatory requirements
- Enhance customer satisfaction
- Ensure continuous improvements in line with objectives
Certifications serve as acknowledgement that a company complies with guidelines and requirements as well as meets the highest standards of quality, says Jodi Penn, Vice President of Quality for BIG, who led the ISO 9001:2008 certification process.
“If a company is ISO-certified, the customer can have 100% confidence that the processes presented to them are really being followed and that employees have been properly trained according to the standards we have set,” Penn says. “Also, customers can rest assured that if there is a failure of any sort, a root cause analysis will be performed to determine the cause of the failure, a corrective action will be taken and future processes will be implemented to ensure that the failure does not happen again.”
